šŸ‘§šŸ½Addy: An American GirlšŸ‘§šŸ½

This was the first series of books that I remember reading for leisure. My parents purchased each of the books for me and I was so excited to read about a little girl that looks like me. In an environment where we were only taught stories of us during Black History Month it made me smile to see someone that looked like me on the pages of a book. This story brings back many childhood memories that make me so proud to not only be who I am but be thankful for the parents that I have.

It is so important to foster your culture. I think all children should know about their ancestors as well as they know about the newest TikTok dances. Reading is that gateway into experiencing culture and learning about yourself. It is also a great way to learn about other cultures and immerse yourself in a world view.

Don’t just wait until African-American history month, Hispanic heritage month, and or Asian and Pacific Islanderā€˜s history month. It’s important to encourage yourself to be open to know ideas and thought processes. I think it’s a very fulfilling experience overall.
